Remember Knut? The polar bear who was rejected by his mother and was successfully raised by the zoo turned into an overnight sensation a few years ago. Reports have comfirmed that he has collapsed and died.

I still remember the time when an open poll was made by the zoo to name the baby polar bear. It’s sad that he’s gone now at such as young age.

Of all the players we have, no one is a great boost to the squad as Lucena. A 30 year old, european based regular professional who plays in a good Danish 2nd div club. Neil Etheridge despite being on a stronger club and league, doesn’t come close to the experience this guy has. Being 30 years old, arguably the best player in the field and most appearances with competitive football, if this guy spoke any English, he’d be wearing the Armband in no time.

Spider-man 4: Things seen cannot be unseen.

Everybody agrees that Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 were perfect. No, I did not mean perfect “superhero” movies. I meant perfect movies. From the core to the shell, the movies were perfect. I, for one, would cite that they are close (though not quite there) to Godfather’s level. Fate, destiny, loyalty, betrayal, father & son, growing up, doubt, dreams, love, morality and everything else were mixed just right to create a blend that will be forever engraved into people’s minds as Spider-Man 1&2, one of the best movies ever.

It’s hard to live up to the ridiculously high standards set by the duo. The success of the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man, critical reception-wise, will be edgy at best. Just ask Spider-Man 3. Twas a good movie, but a great movie? Maybe, oh wait I just compared it to the previous Spider-Man movies — nope not great, maybe good at best. Seeing Spider-Man 3 fall short of expectations, I am quite concerned over the new Spider-Man’s quality. You can have the best actors, best director and the best crew but when up against those two — you’re really in for a struggle. Hollywood has this crazy phenomenon where those expected to bring quality will flunk expectations and those carrying the least expectations deliver a bang of surprise.

I didn’t say that the new movie will flop face down on the floor the moment it screens. What I’m saying is that I’m quite concerned about the possibility that the new movie might destroy the series. As hollywood our guide, chances are going the destroyed direction. “Great power and great responsibility”, “intelligence is a privilage” and all the other lines from both movies were a great part of me growing up. Watching either Spider-Man still invokes the same feel for me as if I’m watch them for the 1st time. I don’t want my idea of Spider-Man ruined because of a new movie. Just as I don’t want Godfather rip-offs, I don’t want to experience a half-baked Spider-Man (believe me, commercialism can make that happen). My memory hasn’t been fully tarnished by number three and I don’t want it to be full-blown tranished by number four.

It’s a coin-flip I’m not comfortable with. Either I start remembering how Spider-Man was and not how it became or start embracing the awesomeness of the new Spider-Man is an inevitable decision. The movie is coming whether I like it or not. All I can do is hope for the best. We’ll, Que Sera Sera.
